Howard’s work shifts between representation and abstraction and often lies somewhere in between. He paints to create a bolt hole from the pressures and stresses of modern life in order to provide the viewer with a peaceful and tranquil space to rest one's gaze. He aims to provide a visual arena for reflection and contemplation, whether it be a mountain face or a colour field. .His works are held in collections in North America, Europe and Asia. There is a sense of tranquility in his work that perhaps reflects the years he spent living in Japan where the beauty of space and stillness is itself a sought after aesthetic. Though still, many of the pieces are heavily saturated - the colours vivid and striking. Others provide a space for reflection and for thoughts to develop and flit around. Some Reviews.......................................................................................................................................................... A Long Walk over High Ground 6 Oct 2020 When it feels as if the walls are closing in, I shall walk a while in your shoes to the High Ground where imagination can take wing. Thank you, Howard for giving substance to your ‘rememberings’ and sharing your unique internal landscape in this lovely painting......BH Oct 2020 Last Light At Sea 2 Howard Sills 5 Stars A stunning painting. Reminds me of the Monet paintings I once saw in Russia - when you look at the canvas, the image comes out of the blue (colour) and captures the atmosphere of dusk over water. I Love it. Service Could not ask for a better service Judith L , Ammanford 19-Jun-2014 Testimonial:Seascape 3 & Seascape 4 by Howard Sills "I'm delighted with 'Seascape 3' and 'Seascape 4'. Both the colours and composition are very strong and the series is very well conceived. The colours are even stronger than they appear on screen and the quality surpassed my expectation for a print. Great work Howard!! Thank you also for the recommendation regarding framing. . Very confident. J.G, Cork, 21-Jun-2011
