About The Artwork

This drawing is a memorandum addressed to the Portuguese writer Teixeira de Pascoaes. He wrote rather sombre poetry, which can be attributed to his status as a wealthy bourgeois with a large family and, at the same time, a loner. The female figures in his work were his mother, aunts and servants, which is reflected in the predominant colour associated with pink. The base of the drawing is the colour sepia, which connects to the earth; his homeland, Amarante, in Portugal. The purplish hue is associated with the spiritual environment. Gold, the colour of status, may be a possibility.

"There is hope in honest error. None in the icy perfection of the mere stylist." C.R.M. The collection presents a compelling case for the feminist and hermaphrodite sensibility of the designer and architect. The complexity of each drawing is derived not from the forms used, but from the materials employed: paper, refillable pens, diluted pigments and collages (assemblages). On occasion, I utilise a contrasting material, yet I still espouse a methodology that is both ecologically and environmentally clean, reflecting the process involved in creating the various collections. The process of creating a drawing can be compared to the construction of an architectural project or a musical composition. It has its own conceptual phases, which can be compared to the creative processes of an architectural project or a musical composition. Alternatively, it may choose to remain at a particular stage. The materiality and temporality of each work are analysed. Furthermore, the concept of "style" (as a methodology) is not sought, as it is perceived as a limiting factor in the representation of ideas. Conversely, my experience in architecture allows me to create works as projects, applying the methodology of building with preferably ecological materials. It is also important to note that there is another aspect of my work that explores architectural design as conceptual objects. In this context, I question the concept of imitating nature (bio-mimicry) in the creation of public buildings or civil utility buildings. My collection of drawings, entitled Tomos, confidently and warmly explores the relationship between the quality of art in the 21st century and the resources used to create it.
