Netherlands
Amanda Dake is an independent, contemporary artist, born in 1974 in Rottum, the Netherlands. Amanda transforms mannequins into art objects, using acrylic paint. Sometimes she uses materials as plastic and metal on her mannequins. She is known for her colourful art, she gives the mannequins a second life. Art is her passion, painting is a thing of her life what makes her so happy. She drew from an early age, later she took painting and drawing lessons. Amanda Dake's special collection of mannequins came by accident. Her idea came about when she saw a "lost mannequin" in an empty shop window. From that moment on, Amanda Dake became enthusiastic about new, creative possibilities with the mannequins. In the meantime, beautifully painted mannequins regularly leave her workspace. All authentic objects, with their own story. Almost every fashion model inspires her, be it a bust or a complete mannequin, it always gives me energy. As an artist, Amanda takes a critical look at every object, considered creatively, the model must appeal to her. A new source of inspiration, during her work a bond is created, as it were, with such a mannequin. When the mannequin is painted he or she gets a personal name, a name that fits the mannequin. This is kind of personification, as a creative signature.
